How to Add a Pattern to 3D Object in Illustrator

Create a new document in Illustrator.

Select the on the toolbar and draw a line like the figure.

To open 3D Revolve Option dialog box go to Effect->3D Revolve. Check the "Preview" so you can experience the results, select "right edge" from the "from" drop down menu.

Click Map Art to open the Map Art dialog box, you can click and to choose the surface you wish to add a pattern on.

Choose a pattern from the Symbol drop down menu. Drag the pattern to anywhere you would like and then click on Ok.

Now you have added a pattern to a 3d object.
